Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud

The past few weekends have been cold, wet and windy and leaving the house really hasn’t felt like a fun or sensible idea. Instead they have been weekends of cuddles on the sofa with Disney films and blankets. But, by some sort of miracle, today, the rain had gone on its merry way and although the sun hadn’t put his hat on the temperature was feeling a lot more pleasant.

So we put on our wellies, jackets and hats and headed out for a muddy adventure.

Sitting on Grandad’s shoulders is never a bad way to start an adventure.

Willow loved the different textures under foot, our favourite book to read at home is ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen. We love the repetition and onomatopoeia in the book, making it easy and fun for Willow to join in and remember the words.

Today was Willow’s very own Bear Hunt.

‘Swishy Swashy, Swishy Swashy’

‘Squelch Squerch, Squelch Squerch’

‘Splash Splosh, Splash Splosh’

We may have had a few slippy moments in the mud and puddles but Willow wasn’t bothered at all. Instead it just added to her enjoyment. And for me theres nothing better than seeing your child covered in mud with a huge smile on their face.

‘Stumble Trip, Stumble Trip’

The lone wanderer and her little best friend.

There is nothing more fun for a toddler than a pile of rocks to explore.

I was so proud of my little toddler today, out for over 2 hours and it wasn’t a short or easy walk. Amazingly she walked most of it herself and only asked to be carried when the terrain got a little too rough or towards the end when tiredness set in.

We’ll be hearing the words ‘Mud, Mud’ for days.

I love family days, and today is definitely one to remember, supporting each other on rough terrain, laughing with each other on slippy ground, exploring new areas together and talking without modern day interruptions.

With my favourite season fast approaching, I cannot wait for many ‘Spring’ walks and adventures with my littles.

Thank you for reading, I look forward to taking you all on many more family adventures with us. See you in my next post.

  3. Awww two hours she did fabulously well and looks like she really enjoyed it. Going on a Bear Hunt is a favourite in our household too – in fact Monkey was a little mad on it including having a themed Birthday last year. Great that you could get outside I am hoping for some better weather this coming weekend. Thank you for joining us again at #BloggerClubUK hope to see you again next week xx

    1. Thank you, I was really impressed with her! And a Bear Hunt themed birthday sounds wonderful, I think I’ll be baring that in mind for her 3rd birthday now 🙂 I’m hoping for some better weather too, fed up of being stuck indoors with a toddler now xx

  5. You captured some great expressions in these pics, plus love a bit of newborn squish babywearing 🙂
Lily often recites / loudly sings ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ even on local dog walks, we get some strange looks haha!

  6. What a lovely day out, and great that you could all join in. I love the picture of her with her face all scrunched up whilst standing in the mud. We too read that book and it is great to fuel their imagination and relate it back to the book as they find it magical don’t they. Thanks for sharing #whatevertheweather

    1. Thank you, we love family days out with everyone. I think Willow enjoys having lots of people to play with (and to carry her when she gets tired!) She loves the book, it’s usually at the top of her list of bedtime stories…. Every night. Thank you for the lovely comment x

  8. Aww, such beautiful pictures! Love the photos of Willow on Grandad’s shoudlers and little tot asleep on your front. I miss carrying my babies o my front, where you can kiss their sweet heads as you walk, now I get little fingers tickling my neck and head peering round to see where we are going! It looks like a great walk and well done to little Miss for walking so much of it on her on! They really do surprise you in how far they can walk without needing carried. Thanks so much for linking up your lovely walk with the family to #Whatevertheweather 🙂 x

    1. Thank you lovely, Willow regularly surprises me now, I really should have more faith in how far her little legs can carry her now! I love carrying tiny tot, Willow wasn’t such a fan of being carried so I’m making the most of it this time around 🙂 Thanks again for hosting x
